“My life amounts to no more than one drop in a limitless ocean.

Yet what is any ocean, but a multitude of drops?”
David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas

What does the ocean mean to you? Is it a place of a serenity? Is it a reflection of turbulent waters inside your mind?

Is it something you’ve never seen before? Is it simply your favorite vacation spot?

Before we go too far in asking questions, the ocean is one of the most intriguing recurring images in poetry. It can be used to symbolize peace, turbulence, or just about any emotion you want to convey.

These poems are very focused on the ocean itself, but also what the ocean can mean to a person if you look at it as more than a simple body of water.

Tidal Thoughts
