Reality Break Press is run by a duo that’s been racing around the literary world since they were small enough to race around living room furniture. Now that we’re both young professionals, we decided to team up and create a journal that specializes in stepping away from day to day life and dives into speculative fiction.

In this quest, we want to assist unpublished writers to spread their wings, as well as help established writers, have their voices reach more people. We want to help young writers develop their skills and discover the joy of delving into creative writing.

Reality Break Press, or RBP for short, is open to all writing that encourages the reader to push beyond mundane, day-to-day life. Whether this takes form as speculative fiction, like fantasy or sci-fi, or something entirely different, we want to read it.

Here’s a bit more about us, in case you’re wondering who the heck we are.

Leigh Fisher — that’s me, so pardon the odd third person business in this first sentence. I’ma novelist and copywriter from Neptune. No, not the eighth-farthest planet from the sun, but from Neptune Township, New Jersey. I’ve held an odd mix of jobs at colleges and universities, ranging from a social media manager to an enrollment technician.

I was also the editor-in-chief of Ocean County College’s Seascape as well as a managing editor for Stockpot at Stockton University. Pardon the horn-tooting, but I’ve been published in Five:2:One Magazine, Rising Phoenix Review, The Missing Slate, and The Write Launch, with several more publications forthcoming. I received my bachelor’s degree in literature from Stockton University and took part in writing workshops at Johns Hopkins University.

I’ve always wanted to be part of various writing communities. With these experiences behind me, I wanted to put the skills that I learned to work and start a literary magazine with my favorite editor.

That’s more than enough about me, so let’s talk about my lovely partner in crime next!

Mehrina Asif is a poet and novelist who works as a developmental editor. She is an incredible fiction writer, crafting character-driver short stories that can shatter a reader’s heart.

She recently completed her bachelor’s degree in biology from George Washington University in Washington, DC. Since one degree would have been too easy, she also gets into the nitty-gritty of writing and language with her second degree in linguistic anthropology.

Amid battling delays on the DC metro, she keeps busy with writing and has been published in The Tower Journal.

All in all, we’re writers and editors. I don’t want to bore you with our life stories, but if you’re curious to know who will be reading your work, here we are.

If you’re interested and would like to submit, take a leisurely stroll over to the RBP website and check out our submission guidelines.

We’re also on just about every flavor of social media you might like to sample, if you’d like to see what else we’re up to across the internet.
